Travelling back from a weekend in Eastbourne I heard on Johnnie Walker's "Sounds of the 70s"R2 show:
"Band on the Run" by Wings
Apparently it was George Harrison's remark "if we ever get out of here" during the legal wrangling that followed the Beatles break-up that inspired Paul to write this song

"Lady Madonna"
is the song I woke up to this morning (at 6.10 am).  It was Vanessa Feltz's birthday feature.  The caller was born this day in 1968 - the week Lady Madonna was No1.

Last night was my College's Spotlight evening were students showcase their talents.  I couldn't go but a colleague told me all about it, including the introductory remarks made by one of the award-givers who talked about sharing musical tastes with her students - one of which is Beatle songs.

I don't read my paper from cover to cover but I do always check the obits and another musician has passed away - Joe Mudele, a double-bass player:
"At his peak  Mudele was a regular on countless pop sessions ... and was part of the group of orchestral musicians that George Martin used regularly at EMI's Abbey Road Studios including the sessions that produced the Beatles' single Penny Lane and the Sgt Pepper's Lonely Hearts Club Band album" The Times (26/03/2014) p54

Gary Burger of the proto-punk band Monks died recently. An American soldier in1960s Germany, his first group was the 5 Torquays:
"With Burger acting as both lead guitarist and vocalist they entertained military personnel and local teenagers ... at venues such as the Top Ten Club in Hamburg, made famous by the Beatles" The Times (25/03/2014) p49

Left the house this morning at about 7.10 am to the Beatles playing on the R2 Chris Evans Breakfast Show - my normal wake-up station. The song was:
"Hello, Goodbye"
In my case, Goodbye weekend-Hello Monday morning! 

Eating a bowl of homemade carrot n' lentil soup for my dinner and watching BBC2 Antiques Roadtrip I saw Philip Serrell go in search of old spectacles - to accompany an eye test poster he'd bought.  He couldn't resist trying some on including :

On returning home after a walk I listened, as I often do, to Johnnie Walker's 70s show on R2. One of his guests was Mark Rye who talked about working for various record labels.  He recalled one occasion when he broke the rules and took his poorly dog to the studio.
Paul and Linda McCartney arrived and took a keen interest in Mark's dog.  Mark said he'd never forget the bizarre experience of discussing his pet's hernia with Paul! Johnnie followed this revelation with a Wings song: Jet.
